In August 2010, Prof. Fred Han joined the School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and was appointed associate professor in July 2016. Prior to his move to academia, he practiced for over two decades as an Industrial Designer across sectors, including Automotive, Electronics, and Technology, with a range of globally renowned organizations. These include General Motors and Ford Motor Company in the US, and Philips Design (HK), TCL (Shenzhen), and Tonly Electronics in China. He also served as Design Mentor for XbotPark at Songshan Lake, Dongguan, and as a visiting professor at the CheungKong Graduate School of Business.

 

Research Area

His research interests include dignity-centered design strategies for assistive technology and healthcare devices aimed at the aging population.


Research Project

1. Adjustable hydrotherapy wet vest development for patients with neuromuscular disease and other disabilities

2. Design of Thermal Comfort Breast Prosthesis for Post-Breast Cancer Surgery Patients

3. Assistive Hydrotherapy Device for Parkinsonian Patients’ Rehabilitation Exercise
